How do I break up with my boyfriend?

my boyfriend got me a really expensive gift for christmas. i used to like him but now i just wanna be friends. i wanna break up and still be best friends. how?
you can ask him nicely and calmly,but if he gets mad, its not my problem.

Just tell him you feel as if you don't have feelings anymore. That you don't want to hurt his feeling and that you guys can still be friends. But honestly, it's kinda weird to be friends with your ex, so I would just see how things go and wait a little until you make the choice.
Just tell him your heart desire and that is all.
If you have no feelings for him then the best thing to do is to end it as it will only hurt both of you. It will be akward for a while, I cant tell you how long as I dont know. I'm not sure what to do about the gift though.
