I live in zone 6 and I desperately want to plant something in the flowerbeds that are against the front of the house, that are on each side of our front door... This side of the house faces south/south west, but the problem is we have two mature and healthy pin oaks that are so big that they completely block all sunlight from ever reaching this area where I want to plant stuff! I'm not exaggerating either. It's completely shaded so the only stuff that ever grows are random pieces of grass, weeds, and other baby oak trees which end up getting pulled. My room mate wants to transplant some rose bushes we have and put them in the beds I'm talking about but I keep stressing to him that they won't be happy there because of the absence of sun light. He won't listen though. Any plant recommendations would be very appreciated!
