I've been planning to write a novel in my head for a while now. I've started about six others, but I've never managed to finish them - I get bored of writing them or I'm just not in the right mindset to finish them. But finially I've thought of an idea that I really like, I have a pretty good idea of how it will end, the characters are set - I'm ready to write it. I just can't figure out how to start it and everytime I think about it, I picture it more as movie than a book. I don't want to write a screen play... Does anyone have any tips or suggestions to get out of this mind set?

I do the same thing all the time: want to write book, then just stop. Sometimes, I might even read over it, throw it away, then a while later, I'll want it back. Maybe you should actually consider writing a screenplay. Or perhaps just write the movie in your head in book form? (Besides, in my opinion, you should be able to make a good book a movie in your head) If you don't feel like doing either thing, you could go back to a story you never finished. Good luck!
I do the same, since I was 10, only finished one, at maybe a hounded or so pages, then tossed it, I decided I did not like it any more, and there was only about 20,000 words so.... Now I am going near the age of 14, and I am only at chapter 10, but I actually really like the book I am writing, even if no one else does.
ANYWAYS, back to the question, I write of the image, I just replay it in my mind and write everything that the person is doing -not to excessive- and it may help others visualize it. I would start with a prologue, just to give a bit about the story, I did a diary entry for mine, and that might help starting it. I am not to good with explaining, but I would also write out the characters' description on a different sheet of paper (If on paper). Its really up to the person for contents and such, but I would make sure to record most of the plan for the book, that way you may not forget -I like to make it up as I go, then I am like a reader.
Its all up to you of how it would go, hope my babbling helped, and I suggest that you find a website you could get some opinions of the book, I personally use Wattpad.
