Microsoft tend to have a policy of releasing an OS that it thinks people will like and then following it with an OS that responds to the criticism. For that reason, Microsoft operating systems have always alternated between high user acceptance and low.

It's no different than what they did with DOS.

I know Microsoft are frustrated with the lack of user acceptance and they feel held back by a conservative public but it's the public who choose an OS, not Microsoft who should tell us what we should use.
I agree that Windows 8 moves way too far towards the tablet/phone model. Microsoft have been misguided in pandering to that. Why are they trying to come up with a single OS that works on a PC, tablet and phone? I don't see Android looking to be a PC OS. Apple don't do it, either. Apple are clever enough to realise the difference and much as I dislike Apple, they appear to understand their market; something Microsoft only does one in every two operating systems.
Windows 9 will be great, though.
