My grandma says it will kill you or hurt you if you swim after putting chlorine in the pool yesterday? Is this true?

There are a dozen or so chemicals that you might put in your pool, and they are all called "chlorine". You have to learn the business. Learn correct spelling while you are at it. Anybody who hasn't learned proper grammar and spelling is too stupid to be trusted with noxious chemicals.
No. If you put the normal everyday amount in the pool or the pool service does you can go swimming an hour later.
If the pool has some serious issues like algae or something and you have to add heavey amounts of chemicals to do what is known as "shocking" the pool then you should wait 24 hours."
"Most balancing chemicals, such as pH, alkalinity, and calcium hardness, will become incorporated into the water within an hour of adding them, at which time swimming is safe. Shock takes longer to adjust with the pool water, so waiting overnight after shocking before you swim is recommended.
