I understand that Ebola started in West Africa, but it shouldn't too big a difference in a different area, should it? I don't see anything relating to Ebola about temperature either. The disease spreads in a way that should make it very common in the US, leading to an outbreak. So again, why would it be rare?

Well, it might spread just as easily but in America we have much better hygiene and access to medical care then most countries. We also are much more likely to quarantine...it would still be pretty bad though. We also eat more calories then in third-world countries, so we have more energy to fight off illness. I hope this answers your question.
