Is God really listening, or is it just a way to release my thoughts and feeling. How will I know.

God wants us to pray to him. There are numerous scriptures that tell us he wants us to pray to him and that he hears our prayers.
For example: Psalm 145 verses 18 & 19 tell us that Jehovah is near to all to call on his name, and he satisfies their desire and helps them.
One way to convince yourself is to put it to the test.
But there are certain requirements in that your prayer has to be sincere, that it is in the name of Jesus.
Prayer is a privilege extended to us by God. It's a blessing to be able to talk to God and know that he hears us. We can actually talk with him and know that he is always there, willing to help us. So we must never take it for granted. We should never ask God selfishly for unnecessary things. We must be mindful to pray for God's will to be done and that his name in sanctified as Jesus taught us to pray. We must pray for others. We must remember to thank God for all he has done for us, and remember to ask for forgiveness and act in harmony with our prayers. When we pray we humble ourselves before our Creator letting him know that we love him, and that the honor and glory belongs to him.
Jesus himself left a model pray for us to follow so we could benefit from dearly It's at Matthew 6:9/10, In this scripture we are told to pray for God's name to be sanctified, for the Kingdom to come and for God's will to take place, as in heaven, also on earth.
The reason I mention Jesus model pray it's because Jesus set the perfect example for mankind to follow, the way he approached or pray to his father at every given moment not only when he needed help but also to thank him and praise him for his loving kindness and goodness to him. In a similar way we have every reason to turn to God in prayer . A simple but most important example is the breath of life, without it for just a minute we will be dead. Ever wonder where you got oxygen from to breathe? No doubt it is God himself. Is that not enough reason to pray to God and form a relationship with him? Pray to God is the best relationship you could ever develop and no one could break up your relationship with your Heavenly Father because you could talk to your God from your heart and mind which no one else could know it. What's even better is we could be forced to stop doing many stuff in life but no one could force you to stop your relationship with God even if they try to because pray is what will keep you and your best friend God, friends forever. He is the friend that will have your back forever without looking back for anything in return.
If you are a believer, why are you asking? A believer just assumes there is a god listening.
I don't believe so I think for some people it is exactly what you said, just you laying things out in your head and giving your brain a chance to figure out an answer or how to solve the problem.
I read somewhere that about 6 billion believe in a god. If even 10 percent are praying what do you think the odds are those 6 million prayers are being heard and answered?
Prayer is powerful and can do many miracles and wonderful things. Todd White commited to praying for one thousand people that God would heal them-they were all injured. None of them were-the point isn't the prayer, the point is the faith behind the prayer, he did this for a few weeks each wednesday believing they would be healed until, one day, over night they all where...
Because we don't know God, we ask the question - is God is really listening? Who is God? God is the very power that makes your heart beat, God is inside you. The moment God leaves, there is death, there is no breath. If God is inside you, then ask yourself the question - is God listening? Or is it just a way to release your thoughts and feelings? The moment you realize God is inside you, you come to know God is watching you all the time. God is listening to you. You come to realize that you are not this body, you are not the mind , you are the Divine Soul. This self-realization is God - realization. But unfortunately, we are so busy in this noisy world that we are not able to listen to God’s silent voice, that keeps talking to us within. We are so busy in the world outside that we don't go inside.

But your response "Praying is simply sorting out what you believe." The verse you put with it doesn't really prove your case. The power of prayer is more than that, Hezekiah proved that-he prayed with great faith. In the morning, over 1000 men were killed at the hand of Angels
