The bible says that area is God's city. That alone guarantees constant attacks against it. Palestine is the modern pronunciation of Philistine and they have always been enemies of the land of Judah, the people we now call Jews.
As I understand the history, when the Romans conquered Jerusalem they moved people into the Philistine area specifically to annoy the Jews. Two thousand years later The Palestinians think that is their ancestral homeland, and the Jews think they are mighty tired of the phonies squatting in their territory. World opinion is the only thing that keeps the Jews from wiping them out, but the only possible settlement is for everybody on one side to kill everybody on the other side.
