Why is pressure important in sedimentary rocks ???

I am not well studied in this field, but I know that "sediment" means water, and the water is squeezed out by pressure. If you don't have pressure, you just have sand.

You do know that quartz is soluble in water, right? That is an important part of the sediment-to-stone process.
