I quit alcohol 5 months ago and because my dad is down to see me for a few days he wanted to go for a few pints at the pub so I got a pint of coke and it costs between £2.50-£2.80.For the same price i can buy a pint of Carling or Kronenbourg. The only reason I didn't buy a pint of beer is because 90% of it is water so why waste the money.

I have worked in the US restaurant industry for years- I can tell you that soda syrup is pretty expensive a five gallon concentrate costs about $55 here in the US. That adds up quick when you have to buy multiples- and you get a little over 10 gallons of soda at a 1:1 ratio plus they have to buy the CO2- but still most places charge so much for soda because it is a way to make more of a profit margin-they are making roughly 2 pounds on then on a drink- unless they give you free refills- that is one of the reasons why drink prices here have gone so high- it is $3 a soda here- You can buy a full 2 liter for half that in the store- they are still trying to drive the profit margin, but some people will drink 3 or 4 glasses at dinner with free refills-
I live in UK and we don't get free refills but because it's so expensive in pubs half the time i sneak my own soda in the pub and refil it myself because for £2.50 in the pub they only give me 500ML but in the shop i can get 3 2L bottles of it
