2 weeks ago I brought a green Indian Ringneck Parrot. He is an aviary bred bird. I'm quite worried about him because he doesn't seem to be cleaning himself as his front feathers are starting to clump together. I have spoken to a few different vets who have said he may be getting lonely and miserable. He has got some toys in his cage but hasn't been playing with them and just sits in the corner of the cage with his eyes shut. Since he is avian bred, he isn't tame but in the past week he hasn't been getting nervous when we put our hands in the cage and will eat fruit out of my hand. He sleeps all through the day and even when he's not sleeping he always has his right eye close, sometimes he doesn't open them both at all.
I'm not sure what I can do to give him more energy and make him more active. I have tried letting him out of his cage, but he doesn't seem to be able to fly and I fear he may have hurt his wings somehow, as he just falls clumsily to the ground. Luckily he is still eating and digesting food but he doesn't drink a lot of water.
I'm not sure if he's lonely or just settling in to a new environment but I would like to have some advice on what to do to help him keep his feathers nice and clean and on how to get him more active.
