Why is my computer only showing gifs as different frames?

when I open a gif file on my computer (windows 7), it shows the gif, instead of a motion picture, many separate frames. Can someone PLES help?

It depends on what you mean by "open". If you open a folder, the folder will display a single frame. You have to use a viewer to display the moving picture, and some viewers may or may not do that. I use the one from irfanview.com/
