Why is my classmate so mean if I'm not annoying/mean to them?

A classmate might be mean despite someone being nice to them due to insecurity, jealousy, peer pressure, or issues at home. Sometimes, people lash out to feel more in control or to fit in with others, even if the person they’re being mean to doesn’t deserve it.
