Why is it that even though I'm great at detecting notes on an instrument I cant sing them? If I hear someone sing something I can easily play what I have just heard but when I try to sing it what I want to come out doesn't come out right? Its either flat or way off. Ill know when I'm singing that its not right but no matter how hard i try to get my voice to make the right noise it wont? I don't want singing lessons as singing isnt actually something i wish too pursue but id still like to be able to be good at it as a hobby. If anyone has any tips id love to hear them.
Why is it I cant sing if I'm not tone deaf?

I'm thinking that perhaps it's just because you aren't used to shaping your voice in such a way. Being able to detect notes is already a huge boost to your ability, all you have to do is practice. I've been in a choir for 3 years, and at the beginning, I couldn't even tell a note from another and I was often flat, but after a while, I got the hang of it. With an instrument by your side, just try singing back to yourself over and over again. A choir tip in not singing a flat note, is having your mouth shaped as an "o", making the inside hollow. You should hear that your note isn't flat, if not, then all I can do is wish you luck and continue practicing!
Thank you! Ill make sure to try that out when practising :)
