i know it *is* wrong, but why..?
what sort of verb is want? what sort of syntax error is being made?
i know one *is*, but i couldn't tell someone what it was. i just have sort of an instinctive grasp of grammar, on account of my being a voracious reader. so i'm not that intimately familiar which the technical, structural terminology, or the precise letter of the rules.
Why is it grammatically wrong to say "I want back my girl," rather than "I want my girl back"?

Some languages use case endings to identify what's what. English uses word order and helper words. That is why you hear people say things like "Throw the cow over the fence some hay." In the old language that was a fine way to talk.
Your example is not wrong, it's just not the way we talk.
ohh, i see, interesting...
anyone know when that way of constructing a sentence fell out of favour..?
