The sentence I had was "Do you think there would be disadvantages of always saying yes". Now, I know it's "disadvantages TO always saying yes", but why??

Now learn the dative case. Suppose I say to you "Give me your book." The word 'me' is in the dative case because what I really mean is "Give TO me your book." The dative case is any time you have to, from, in, for, by, and others. "Of" is a special example of dative case indicating possession, association, or origin, and it is called possessive case. So when you say 'of', maybe it's dative and maybe it's not.
The straight answer to your question is "Because that's the way we talk."
Well, I don't know. I guess it's just the way we talk.
Thanks Jewel,
But,
Why do we say:
There is a disadvantage TO always SAYING yes
These are the disadvantages OF always SAYING yes
It is a disadvantage TO always SAY yes
Thanks
