Why is Alaska cold and Hawaii hot if they are next to each other on the map?

Well, Hawaii is a lot closer to the equator than Alaska, just by observing a map, so that I would assume would be the reason why.

The equator is warmer since the sun's rays hit it more directly than any other part of the Earth.

I didn't search anything up, I just answered this question with some background knowledge, I may be wrong or only partially right. I'm pretty sure it's correct though.

I've noticed that. Another thing I have noticed is that Greenland is almost the same size as Africa, but you just never hear of anybody from Greenland. Very strange.
