A SVC tracfone is a basic phone, they charge $15 for it. A Jitterbug, a more basic phone, is at least $100. That's a big difference. I know that tracfone's customer service is reputed for not being helpful, even though JD Powers rated it second best in the prepaid catagory after US Cellular. Jitterbug on the other hand have great personalized service, along with a panic button, which I suppose accounts for some of the 'more expensiveness'. Is jitterbug taking the mickey, or is tracfone subsidising their phones THAT much?

I doubt very much the Tracfone would subsidise their phones too much. I genuinelly think that's the price of basic phones, and they probably still make money off the resale. Have the look at basic phones being sold online from China, and realize how cheap phones really are. Further more, there is a very popular belief that because you specialize in anything you can charge more for the supposed promise of never-any-problems, always happy days. Being a little cynical, I don't see that happening ever, with anybody, no matter how much they charge.
In my mind, added the fact that tracfone have by far the better coverage, which is the base for any phone, chosing the SVC should be a no brainer. Unless you have money to burn.
