Why does the story of lilies of the field entitled " lilies of the field"?

The book is about a group of white (like lillies I suppose!) German nuns who think a black man they meet has been sent from God to help them build a chapel.
As the "Lilies of the Field" is a phrase used in Matthew 6:28 in the Bible perhaps the author (William Edmund Barrett) thought would be appropriate.
