Why does the climate of the regions near seashore remain moderate? (Physics)

It is due to the specific heat capacity of water being significantly greater than that of land. The sea & oceans have therefore greater thermal inertia so need to shed a lot of energy for a degree K of temperature. So less variation in temp between summer & winter. Compare this with the massive extremes of temperature in like as far from the sea as you can get, cental Asia.
I live in a country which is classified as having a "temperate maritime climate", i.e. exactly the kind of climate you mean. The reasons why they occur are many (for instance, they tend to occur on the west of continental land masses as opposed to the east). As the sun moves across the surface of the earth in an westwards direction, it implies that oceans are worse than land at transferring heat.
