Today she told me she was leaving for a few weeks because she "needed to get sorted out". She also said if she doesn't come back she killed herself. Why?

I'm sorry she's being like that, but I understand how she feels...I've done that before. I told my best friends and my crush that 'If I'm not in school on Monday, I killed myself.' And it's true, I tried killing myself, and I still cut myself, but the thing is...I have so much pain in my heart and no one to help make it better. I didn't want to hurt anybody, so I hurt myself. I figured, with reasoning of the Devil, that if I'm not here, other people's lives will be better...But killing yourself isn't even close to 'sorting yourself out.' It's more a pathway to Hell. If she wants 'space' let her have it, but don't give her enough reign and room that she pulls away and turns suicidal. I'm sorry if this didn't help you much.
Best wishes to you and your struggling friend,

Thank you. This was helpful. I am very scared for her because for a few weeks she has completely pushed away. I have no real way to contact her. She has depression and bipolar and she is suicidal.
