It is the same every day. He can't fall asleep until 7 or 8 in the morning and will sleep all day long. He'd sleep for 14 hours every day if I let him. It is terrible trying to wake him up. I have to shake him and practically yell at him for him to even respond and this is after I spend 15 minutes being sweet and coddling him to wake up. Then when he does wake up he's horrendously grouchy and complains that his eyes hurt too much to open them which usually causes him to fall back asleep. Please help!

It's simple really. Somehow he's seems to have gotten jet lag without traveling. (Jet lag is where your sleep schedule doesn't line up with the day and night properly, and is usually caused by travel)
First off, make a more strict sleep schedule.
Go to bed around 9pm and wake up at 7am. Look into sleep aids if you have to.
Secondly, being nice and gentle won't work with deep sleepers (trust me, I am one) Try an alarm clock of some kind. Turn on the lights. Do whatever it takes to keep him on the sleep schedule.
You'll start to see that going to bed and waking up will get easier as time goes on for him.
Finally, if you're wondering how to start this schedule, start with him waking up at 12am or so on the first day, then starting the strict schedule with him going to bed at 9pm that night and waking at 7am on the next morning, and every morning after.
Sorry, I meant to say 12pm on the first day. As in noon.
