I was talking about normal subjects then suddenly he asked me "are you even religious?" I don't get the point of that?

Define "normal subjects" and you will answer your own question. Subjects about birth control, abortion, death penalty, sex before marriage, baptism, confirmation, church attendance, multiple sex partners, cheating in marriage plus a whole host of normal other subjects is likely to get someone who is religious into a twist and want to know what is wrong with you and what kind of morals do you have. Make sure you know your audience before you free wheel in random "normal subjects." Religion and politics are two subjects to stay away from if you don't know your audience. If it's the work place no matter who your audience is keep it to yourself!
Nobody knows what they are talking about. The bible says religion is something made up by men telling each other what to do, and God has a poor opinion of it. Some bible students won't use the word, and nobody understands what they are saying instead.
Satanists are religious. Buddhists are religious. Sikhs are religious. Jews are religious. But none of those resembles another.
He (or she) probably wants to know what morals you have and what you believe in, for the better sake to see if you are even someone he (or she) wants to be friends with. It sometimes depends on how close you are with that friend. Sometimes they just want to make you sound insane in believing something, or just want to know you better. He might of said this to make a deeper conversation. Just ask why he asks so and you might know if he is going to be a friend or not.
