Australia has so many threatened species because it has so many endemic species (=species that are only found here). It is a very isolated continent where not too many species mix, and when you introduce a new one, the native ones are more threatened because they haven't been evolutionary adapted to the new species (which obviously were not here for long enough). That's why the native Australian species are more vulnerable.
