Why do you think such an emphasis is placed on research? What are the benefits of learning new methods of research; particularly, are research methods limited to one subject or disciple? Despite these obvious benefits, why do some students resist conducting research, relying instead on less credible sources or partially developed material?

It is not clear what you are trying to ask. For starters, "research" means two things. One is "search again", to find what is already known. The alternative to that is "investigation", learning for the first time. But many or most people say "research" to cover both those meanings. So your meaning is ambiguous.
The second half of your question implies that the first half has already been answered, and you are blown away by sloppy students. So you need to get clear on just what you are after here.
