I'm a fourteen year old girl that lives in a small town in West Virginia. I've lived in this small town almost all my life. Now, my small town is like a lot of stereotypes (but in my case, quite true): Christianity is the only way, being gay is wrong, and so on and so forth. My parents, teachers, friends, family, and anyone else I can think of thinks this way. I, however, think the exact opposite: I believe that God is God is God, no matter what language, book, version or edition He's in. Small communities like mine usually think the same, so why not me?

I believe you are just more aware of things around you, let's say more sensitive to the current topics that you hear and live out each and every day.
Well, why am I the only sensitive one of about 1000, give or take? Why is this one average teenager more effected by the news than adult, someone who is (or should be) more apt to be effected by all of the debates, rights, arguments, and movements? I mean, am I just looking too far into this... just becoming overly worried about something that probably tons of other people feel?
Your probably not the only one that feels this way, some people mature much earlier then others. There's a very good chance that you have a higher I Q then most of the people around you friends and adults alike. What are the issues that you are most in-tune too ?
The things that I pay the most attention to are usually religion-based or about gay rights. Really, anything with discrimination catches my attention. I've never been discriminated against, but it always seems that I take it personally. Sometimes ethical things will catch my eye as well, such as a thing called 'red-shirting' I heard about on 60 Minutes. And, you are partially right in saying I have a higher IQ than of some of those around me. Many of my other friends are intelligent, too though- we've all gone to the same gifted program for years. Why can't they notice what I do?
Can't really say why they don't see things as you do, maybe they don't perceive social issues as clearly you do. What is it on the religious and alternative lifestyle if i may use such a word that cause's issues with your inner sensitivity ?
To be truthful, I really don't know. I kind of think its all just stupid, having to make such big arguments over things that I see as so simple. For thousand of years, people have never taken change or being different well, but, we're supposedly in 'the Age of the Internet' and 'Intelligence.' The way I see it, shouldn't the Internet make us communicate with people, ideas, and beliefs easier? And with this 'intelligence,' shouldn't we be able to take all of this new information in, process it, and come to understand it? Not neccessarily like it, but at least not make a big deal out of it? (I know that makes me sound hypocritical, but I just seem to get so defensive over these things.) And I guess I just find it saddening what some people have to go through just because other people in their lives are too thick-headed to see anything else but the things they don't like about someone.
Just because you dont support gay marriage or think everything is okay, does not make you not rational. I believe that if you support gay marriage you are just following the crowd and not believing in your own belifs, its different for me im the only one inmy community that believe in the bible :P
i think your have an open mind that is why you dont want to discriminate others you are just being fair to others you dont want to judge them just because of their difference and that is also being rational and reasonable and that is a good sign maybe your thinking like that because you can see that even though they have the same your mind tells you that there is something wrong with the way they used to have
You may think differently, but does that mean that you are right and everyone else in your community is wrong? That is a rhetorical question to get you to think. We are all have our own reasoning ability. We tend to put a high priority in this country about what "we" think. Other cultures do not have that same emphasis on how an individual thinks. The first century Jews did not care how one person thought. They were concerned about the group account; what the group thought, how the group was perceived, was the group honorable. We in this country think much differently and it has hurt us immeasurably. We put emphasis on how an individual thinks, who we are, what we do for work. It defines us here. Let's just face it, we are not that important. You are one person out of more than 6 billion people on this earth at this time. The only time that a person is doing something important is when we are doing something for the kingdom of God. Giving, sharing, loving, caring, tenderness, and sometimes a rebuke is necessary.
Now back to your question. It is not what you think that makes the difference. The importance is on what God thinks. Leviticus 18:21-23 says that it is an abomination to sleep with the member of the same sex. Abomination is a strong term. This is a sin that is putrid in the nostrils of God. I did not say it. God said it. When God says something about a topic is is of the utmost importance.
Are we to point out how wrong someone is for being homosexual? No, that is not our place. We are to befriend everyone and encourage them to come into the kingdom of God. A kingdom where love abounds (in proper context). A kingdom where God is placed in His proper position (He reigns). A kingdom where abundant life is promised. A kingdom where the King (Jesus) has paid the ultimate price for all sins. Yes, He did die even for the sin of sodomy. Anyone can leave their old lifestyle and come into this wonderful kingdom. We are all called to leave our former way of living and be conformed to God's way of thinking. That is the way that this life works. God is the creator. God makes the rules. God reigns. God decides.
Thanks for your answer, but WHY am I thinking 'more rationally' than everyone else? I was exposed to the same ideas as everyone, but why have I ended up so different? We were basically all raised to think that God is just Christian and being gay is wrong, but I'm that kid in the corner that says God is the same guy in every religion and there's nothing wrong with being gay. Is it just that the news, tv, and other medias are making me think differently, or what?
