Why do ducks and crocodile have webbed feet?

Why do fish have fins? Why do birds have wings? Why do a lot of animals have legs? It's simply for better mobility. Although, alligators use their tail to get around in the water for the most part, the webbed feet help a bit. As for ducks, that's their main mobility to move in water.
