Why do biscuits go stale in the open air but stay fresh in a tin, even tho there's air in the tin?

it might be that their covered and even thou their in a tin i don't think they would last very much longer in the tin either cause if you leave the biscuits just in the plastic they come in the time to take them use what you want for a few days then they go bad also just like bread it does the same thing
