Why did Jesus brothers not believe in him?

Chapter and verse, please. We know a few things from the bible, but a lot of people act on things that were made up by false preachers. So every fact has to be established by documentary evidence.

After Jesus’ resurrection his fleshly brothers changed their doubting attitude, for they were present with their mother and the apostles when assembled for prayer after Jesus’ ascension. (Ac 1:14)
