Wow so many answers to this question. Here is what the bible says. The bible calls the death of Jesus a Ransom sacrifice.
A ransom is a price paid to buy back or to bring back about release from some obligation or undesirable circumstance. Jesus ransom price is his shed blood. By paying over the value of that ransom in heaven Jesus opened the way for Adam's offspring to be delivered from the sin and death that we all inherit because of the sin of our forefather Adam.
Romans 5:12 says it is because of one man Adam that sin and death entered into the world. This is why we die. There is nothing any human can do about that. But God stepped in and allowed his son to buy back or release of us this inherited sin and death, so that we can gain what Adam and Eve lost for us...everlasting life.
That is why is the greatest expression of Love that God and his son have shown on behalf of mankind. If you would like to discuss this further I would be happy to. If you would like to look some information up on your own, please visit jw.org
As you know Adam and Eve were perfect. what''s important to keep in mind is that the sacrifice or ransom for Adam and Eve had to be a perfect life also. After Adam and Eve disobeyed God's command, perfection was lost. That's why the perfect Jesus was offered up as a ransom in exchange for the perfect lives of Adam and Eve. Now the important question is, what did Jesus death accomplish? Let's look at the Bible for the answers :
1) John 3:16 says, "For God loved the world so much that he gave his only
-begotten Son, so that everyone exercising faith in him might not be
destroyed but have everlasting life.
Did you notice the love God and his son Jesus expressed, not only by word but by action also. You see none of us could offer such a perfect
gift of not just life, but everlasting life .
2) 1 Timothy 2:5 says, "For there is one God, and one mediator
between God and men, a man, Christ Jesus. "
When Adam and Eve disobeyed God they lost the previledge of
communicating directly with God, so God immediately made a way out
by using his Son to be his spokesman so we could communicate and
and have a close relationship with him.Jesus is in the middle of God and
us, our prayer will not be heard by God unless it's through Jesus Christ.
You could rightly say Jesus is our mail man that delivers our message to
God. Without him it's impossible to reach God and have our prayers be
heard.
These are just two important roles why God gave his son to die for mankind.

It seems like you are acquainted with the Bible. You see God's original purpose for mankind was to live forever on a beautiful paradise earth and because God always keeps his promise , after Adam and Eve disobeyed God, he immidiately had to put in place a ransom for their sins. As we know a ransom had to be exactly equivalent to the price asked. In this case since Adam was a perfect person God had to use someone perfect to pay that ransom.Romans 5:12 tells us, "That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because they had all sinned." Remember there were no other perfect person on the earth after Adam and Eve. So God decided to give his only begotten Son as the ransom to wipe away Adam's sin. Since his son (Jesus ) was in the heavens, at the right side of him, being a master worker, who better for him to use than his son, who was also willing to give himself as the ransom to buy back what Adam and Eve took from us, life itself.
What unconditional love our Heavenly Fathera and his Son Jesus Christ has for us that he gave the ultimate sacrifice of his only begotten son. How painful it must of been for him to offer up his beloved Son and even painful for his Son to know he will be falsely accused and face, torture, shame pain, death and even be spat upon. . The whole purpose that Jesus went through an agonizing death for us is mention at John 3:16, "For God loved the world so much that he gave his only begotten Son, so that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life." Hope this information help you and motivate you to show like myself deep appreciation for the ransom of Jesus Christ ? What is a ransom? The idea of a ransom basically involves two things. First, a ransom is the price paid to release someone or to buy something back. Second, a ransom is the price that covers, or pays, the cost of something. No imperfect human could pay for the enormous damage that Adam did when he sinned and brought death upon us. But Jehovah provided the way to free us from sin and death.
Adam was perfect, therefore it took another perfect human to pay the ransom.
Why God does what God does, is best known to God. It is not for us to assume, to presume as to why God permitted certain things to happen on earth. All we must know is what is happening on earth is a huge cosmic drama, it is not real, it is like a theatre. People come and people go, it is just a show. We must realize that God is the reality. We are all instruments of God, manifestations of God. Our job is to come, to live and to go. To take part in the drama called life. We must surrender to the Divine and live.

The evening before Jesus died, he taught us that we should have a memorial of his death. We do this each year, and it is called the Memorial or “the Lord’s Evening Meal.” (1 Corinthians 11:20; Matthew 26:26-28) Jesus wants us to remember that he gave his perfect life as a ransom for us. He said: “Keep doing this in remembrance of me.” (Read Luke 22:19.) When you attend the Memorial, you show that you remember the ransom and the great love that Jehovah and Jesus have for us.—Please contact Jehovah's Witnesses for the exact date, location and place each year. The ransom is the greatest gift we could ever receive. (2 Corinthians 9:14, 15) That precious gift will even benefit millions of people who have already died.
Jesus chose to leave heaven and die for us because he loves humans.
