Why can't I see the usual birthday wishes that my friend gets on his timeline on facebook?

When there's someone's birthday I get in my newsfeed the birthday wishes they receive. Somehow when this person's birthday came nothing came up in my newsfeed. I may be restricted but then the guy posted a song with privacy "friends" so if I were restricted I shouldn't be able to see it either.
