Had abusive relationship aged 16-25, then 3 years legal to get him out of my life. Now 33 and had same nightmare 7 years constantly. Always the same theme, feel trapped with him, trying to end relationship and get away, finally managing to do so eventually. Had counselling, tried meditation etc, sleep clinic, nothing works, please help me stop them.
Why can't I get rid of the same nightmare?

Didn't know how to reply, so adding the detail this way. Just finished CBT and mindfulness. Has therapist twice before, tried priory advice, went sleep disorder clinic and have tried other things but nothing seems to stop them. It wears me down a lot emotionally and physically. Thanks for your answer.

it might take you awhile goes you went through the night mare for a long time so its gonna take ahile before you come to grips with it before it has a chance to get better i would see a mental health clinic their might be something that they have over looked when was the last time you had counseling
Sometimes a nightmare is a negative thought that is recorded in our mind. And as long as we encourage the mind to repeat that nightmare, it will come back again and again. When we realize that dreams are dreams and not real, that nightmares are the result of the monkey mind; once we realize that this is an illusion and we want to eliminate it, we can eliminate it through several methods. One method is meditation or the practice of silence. Second method is deleting that nightmare from our system realizing that it is a myth, it is not real. The third method is thinking of happy thoughts, and falling asleep after we are tired so there is reamless sleep - this may help.
