I know what cookies are, but suddenly lots of sites seem to be informing me about them with popups. To be fair, these aren't sites I usually visit but I'm not visiting more new sites than I usually do. It seems unlikely that this is just a coincidence and I'm stumbling onto a bunch of sites that have always had these disclaimers.
Why are websites telling me they use cookies? Started this last week, happens frequently?

That started several years ago when data protection acts came into force. What has probably happened is that you've recently updated your browser OR you've started using a new one OR (this is most likely) you've changed your settings somehow and now you're getting these warnings whereas before your browser automaticallly accepted them.
No worries :)
Ah! I just switched to Firefox from Chrome, that must be it. Thanks.
