Why are paintings so detailed?

the more detailed they are the more talented the artist is and the more powerful the art becomes, it is kind of like how your eyes are the windows to your soul except with art either it be drawing or painting etc it is a still picture to a window of the artists thoughts of whatever they are expressing.
