It's generally accepted that people entered what is now America from a land bridge with what is now Russia. The first people to enter America prospered reasonably well and enjoyed the northern continent.
Much later, we are told that in 1492, Columbus discovered America. This is true, but it would be more accurate to say that in 1492, European pirates arrived and began to kill the native population and take their land.
History is written by the winners. Because the Vikings didn't manage to take over England, they are seen as an invading and pillaging force. Because Europeans took control of North America, they aren't.
