If Mauna loa is approximately 700,000 - 1,000,000 years old and Mount Etna is 500,000 years old, how is Mount Etna the oldest volcano?

Estimates of the age of geographical features is unreliable at best. For instance they say the Grand Canyon was carved by water, but the river has always been at the same level, and there is no delta where the river meets the gulf, and absolutely nobody is investigating this oddness. So if they can't explain where the sand went, it's hard to believe any guesses about when it happened. They know even less about volcanoes.
