In terms of number of branch offices and employees, SBI is the largest bank in the world. It was established in 1806, as Bank of Bengal. The State Bank of India was nationalised in July 1955 under the SBI Act of 1955. With more than 9400 branches and over 4000 associate bank branches, the SBI has an extensive coverage.
