In respect of WW2 French Military history and since the Army of France was overrun by the German Blitzkrieg - it is better to focus upon the French Resistance; not to be under estimated since Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D Eisenhower said of the French Resistance, "They have shortened the war by three months."
The French Resistance is a vast history in it's own right. However, you can make a start in the city of Paris and read up on a certain Colonel Rol Tanguy who lead the final fight to liberate the city from the Germans in 1944.
There is also the story of a young man in the Paris resistance who shot a German officer dead down in the Metro and who then simply disappeared into the tunnels.
The French Resistance of Paris were also using the Paris Catacombs
Meanwhile the Free French here in London were busy broadcasting via the BBC to their comrades in France.
The BBC used a real Roman Army kettle drum to send the V for victory sign.
