You really won't find one under $600, most go for at least $1000 and you should only ever buy from a registered breeder. I personally would not recommend buying any type of husky unless you and your daughter are extremely committed to the breed. They are a working breed that need hours of exercise every day, are large and hence are expensive to feed... but most importantly is their coat. I live in Queensland, I work in a dog grooming salon, I know the what it takes to maintain a husky coat. Daily brushing is recommended but won't stop them shedding like mad, they ideally should come in for a thorough groom (hydrobath, blow-dry, brush, de-shedding...) once every two weeks which costs $60+ and takes hours.
If you want to get your daughter a dog to help with depression (I have a friend who has a companion dog for similar reasons) you should think long and hard about the breed.
The RSPCA would be my choice, save a dog. They have health checks, support and great dogs looking for the forever homes they deserve. Puppies are usually $300+, designer breeds go for more.
NEVER buy from a backyard breeder. Take it from me, you don't know what you're going to get... I got thousands of dollars in vet bills. Plus buying from a backyard breeder is just promoting bad breeding, desex your pets people.
ONLY buy from registered breeders. If you look up the breed of your choice you should be able to find a breed club in your state that has a list of registered breeders for you to contact. But when buying a purebred dog there are always genetic health issues you will have to look out for.
Don't look for a cheap dog, you get what you pay for *shrug*... picking a dog should be a very serious and long thought out decision.
I hope I haven't come off as rude or ranty. I hope you choose well with your dog and it helps your daughter.
