When someone says 'take time to work on yourself' what exactly does this mean? What would you do?

It depends on if they said you need to take time to work on yourself, or they need to take time to work on themselves. If the time is for you to work on yourself, that typically means that they aren't going to stick around because of problems you have yourself. However if they need time, they may feel like they need to work on before a relationship will work. I would ask them what extent are we talking.
Everybody needs to learn how to act. Some young people spend their time practicing dance steps, some memorize poetry, some study lines to open conversation, and so on and on. John Molloy, author of "Dress For Success" advises that developing vocal skill improves a person's earning power more than any other detail. (He has lots more advice for students.)
It seems odd that so many people do this, but nobody ever acknowledges the importance of doing it.
