When making bread, do I put butter on it before or after I put it in the oven?

When making bread you might brush melted butter on the top of the loaf before putting it in the oven. That gives a unique sort of browning to the finished loaf.

It is normal to mix a small amount of butter into the dough. It is put in the water and allowed to sit for a few minutes to soften, and then the mixing can begin.

If you are in USA you can get a bread maker for a low price at Salvation Army. You just put all the ingredients in a pot and press "START" and it makes a loaf of bread in four hours with no further attention from you.
