It is not reliable to let people tell you what the bible says. Many people will make up stuff because they don't know what it says, and many will make up stuff because they wish it would not say what it says. You just have to read it for yourself. Read a chapter of Proverbs every day. Proverbs has 31 chapters so you can keep your place by just looking at a calendar. There is no religion or nothing in Proverbs and you don't have to believe anything. Just read to find wisdom. When you are comfortable with that, then read the bible from Romans to 2 Thessalonians over and over until you start to remember what it says. That is the part that applies to Christians.
Acts 11:26 And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
Christian is a God-given name for the followers of Jesus Christ.—Ac 11:26; 26:28.
" After he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year they assembled with them in the congregation and taught quite a crowd, and it was first in Antioch that the disciples were by divine providence called Christians." Before they adopted the name Christian those who became followers of Jesus Christ were spoken of as belonging to “The Way,” that is, they kept a way of life centered on faith in Jesus Christ, following his example.—Ac 19:9.
The life of the Christian, therefore, is not a matter of a code of rules or ritual. Christ’s life reflects the spirit and the love the Christian must strive to develop. (Matt. 5:44; 1 John 5:3) Many religions would confidently say they are but Jesus
gave a rule for recognizing true religion. He said: “Every good tree produces fine fruit.” Bad fruitage would identify the false religion, and good fruits would reveal the true.—Matthew 7:15-20. They must have all the identifying marks not just a few. They should also become imitators of Christ preaching and teaching about God's Kingdom as the focus of their ministry.
IDENTIFYING MARKS OF TRUE RELIGION
□ Those who practice it have genuine love among themselves.—John 13:35.
□ All their beliefs are based on the Bible.—John 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:16, 17.
□ They pray for God to sanctify his name.—Matthew 6:9; Psalm 83:18.
□ They proclaim God’s kingdom in all the earth.—Matthew 24:14.
□ They keep separate from the world’s affairs.—James 1:27; John 17:14.
□ They put God’s kingdom and righteousness first in life.—Matthew 6:33.
□ They cultivate the fruitage of God’s spirit.—Galatians 5:22, 23.
□ They obey all human laws not contrary to God’s law.—Romans 13:1-7.
