You have every right to ask what their talking about or what their making you test for because you can say no to anything they suggest you do.
If you're late for your period and you think you might be pregnant then maybe test said negative and you need to do some blood work to confirm the negative or to confirm your pregnant because taking blood gives you a more accurate answer.
Sounds to me like you are pregnant or were pregnant and they need to take a look for more details to confirm a pregnancy, chemical pregnancy (Depending how many weeks you are) or to confirm that you're not.
