I have to write a poem. If it doesn't have a meter (which it doesn't) we need to state why and it can't be "I didn't want it" and I can't think of a reason, help!
What's a good reason a poem wouldn't have a meter?

If i were in the situation i would say
"Meter is creating rhythm and beat where i do not. Obviously, i chose to do it this way because something that expresses my feelings, thoughts should not bring on to make people feel good or upbeat over something where i have thought deeply about. I see it doing this way (whichever style) because i feel i want it to be said the way i do rather than a song.
I'm sorry if this does not help but if i were in your situation i would have said this.
