With no living family, after they could be released, who would collect them (i.e. social services, Child services, etc.)? What wold happen to the medical bills for them and the parent(s) that passed in the hospital after an accident? What would happen to the families assets such as house if it were owned? Would the child be able to apply for emancipation since they are almost 18?
