If you were a simple foot soldier on the front lines with thousands of other men all fighting in a medieval war what would the experience be like.

Medieval armies weren't that different in terms of practicalities than armies today. They carried out the same operations. What is different is the technology and the brutality and the means of engagement. During battle itself, it would have been chaotic, like being in a riot where everyone is armed. You would be swept along in a claustrophobic melee, surrounded by bodies, unable to see clear land. If you were lucky enough to stay alive (and be on the winning side), you would eventually start to see fewer and fewer of the enemy until they were all dead or had retreated. Then you would begin to pillage.
