sounds like Police Dept. is at fault, I woud first complain to Internal Affairs of the Police Dept. then if the info that was released has damaged someone, a case can be filed in Civil Court against the Media and Police Dept for money damages, I would talk to a Civil Attorney for help..Most Courts have volunteer attorneys that will help in the filing process, you may be able to file it yourself for the damages, but remember you need proof of any damages done by the release of this information...good luck!
Better know first what crime/violation was committed by the media - this will be the legal basis of your case. So any type of lawyer will do at the initial stage. Whoever s/he will be, you would still be referred to a specialized attorney if the former cannot competently handle the lawsuit.
