What strikes people the most about the founding of the American colonies?

The mostly English settlers had been kicked out of England for persecuting other Christian groups, they then persecuted and killed the Native Americans (in an act of genocide) so as to steal their land.
After refusing to pay their legally owed (and reasonable) taxes, they started a war of independence (which was treasonous) and became the USA.
