I've had experience with an unfortunate older sibling and the sad thing is there really isn't much you can do. You just hope they leave home soon or grow out of it(Boys are more likely to do this, girls are a bit stuck in their ways). My older sister was pretty mean and would tell me aweful things and humiliate me infront of my family and her fiance. On a few occasions she would hit me and she hit hard enough to stun me(probably wrecked my brain too). My Mom never did anything about it, and she still does nothing about it.
Just tell her to be strong and pull through, even if that means just getting by one day at a time. It's a long grueling process but she will begin to eventually see that life isn't so bad. Get her to believe that she is above him and not to take it personally and if she has to even get angry about it but avoid getting sad or feeling hopeless.
If it gets really bad there are always services to turn to. She can call people on the phone or even talk to people over the internet. Try to be someone she can trust and let her talk to you if she's that important to you, she'll appreciate the understanding and it will make her feel better to just talk about it.
