the plain was yellow (?) and small. The boys were teenagers? And theybelieved their dad was still alive. I thought I was watching this movie on TV several years ago. (1990's)

I know I'm late, but I was looking for that movie too, it such a great picture :D ! And when I found the answer, I thought I should give it to you too, although I hope you found it before. Here's the complete answer I found:

IMDb synopsis:
Jake Barnes and his two kids, Sean and Jessie, have moved to Alaska after his wife died. He is a former airline pilot now making deliveries across the mountains. During an emergency delivery in a storm his plane goes down somewhere in the mountains. Annoyed that the authorities aren't doing enough, Jessie and Sean set out on an adventure to find their father with the help of a polar bear which they have saved from a ferocious poacher. Conflict ensues.
TRIVIA:
The film was directed by Fraser Clarke Heston, Charlton Heston's son. Prior to this, Fraser likely was best-known for playing baby Moses in "The Ten Commandments" (1956)!
